Israel has launched what it termed a “pre-emptive attack” on Iran, resulting in explosions across Tehran and prompting the Israeli government to declare a nationwide state of emergency. According to Ireporter Online, the escalation marks a significant intensification of tensions between the two Middle Eastern powers, following their last direct confrontation earlier this year.

In a statement released on Saturday morning, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz announced a “special and permanent state of emergency” across Israel. Soon after, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) imposed a nationwide suspension of educational activities, gatherings, and non-essential workplaces, exempting only critical sectors. Citizens were urged to remain near protected areas in anticipation of potential retaliatory attacks.

The IDF warned that the alert was intended to prepare the public for possible missile strikes against Israel. Sirens were sounded nationwide, accompanied by emergency alerts sent directly to mobile devices, urging residents to seek shelter.

Meanwhile, Iranian media reported multiple explosions in Tehran, including at least three blasts in the downtown area on Saturday morning. Fars News Agency reported that several missiles struck the Republic area of the Iranian capital, although Iranian authorities have yet to provide official casualty or damage assessments.

As of this report, Iran has not confirmed any retaliatory action, but analysts note that the situation remains highly fluid, with the risk of a counterstrike remaining substantial.

The escalation comes less than a year after the two nations engaged in direct hostilities in June 2025 and just a day after reported talks concerning Iran’s nuclear programme. Iran continues to assert that its nuclear activities are strictly for peaceful purposes.

The confrontation has also heightened geopolitical tensions, with reports of increased U.S. military deployments in the region, described as precautionary positioning in the event of a broader conflict. Washington has not released an official statement regarding the strike, and its potential involvement remains unclear.
