Bola Tinubu Meets Security Chiefs, Summons Plateau Governor

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday convened a high-level meeting with security and intelligence chiefs over the worsening security situation in Plateau State, summoning Governor Caleb Mutfwang to Abuja for urgent consultations.

According to Ireporter Online, the decision follows a deadly attack in the Angwan Rukuba area of Jos, where armed assailants reportedly killed no fewer than 28 people and left several others injured, heightening fears over security in the state capital.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed the development while briefing journalists in Abuja, stating that the Federal Government has already initiated a coordinated response to contain the crisis and prevent further escalation. He explained that the Plateau State governor has been invited to meet with the President to fashion out a comprehensive strategy aimed at restoring lasting peace, adding that the outcome of the meeting would be made public.

Idris noted that security operatives responded promptly to the incident, with troops under Operation Enduring Peace swiftly deployed to the scene after distress calls. He said the area was immediately secured, major entry and exit points were blocked, and clearance operations launched to apprehend those responsible.

He further revealed that security forces have intensified operations across vulnerable communities in Plateau and the wider North-Central region, with reinforced surveillance, increased troop presence, and joint patrols involving the military and police in high-risk areas. These efforts, he said, are targeted at maintaining stability and protecting lives and property.

The minister reiterated the Federal Government’s resolve to dismantle criminal networks through sustained offensives and intelligence-driven operations, assuring that perpetrators of the attack would be brought to justice. He described the incident as unfortunate but maintained that it does not indicate a collapse of national security architecture.

Following the attack, the Plateau State Government imposed a curfew in parts of Jos to curb further violence and forestall possible reprisals.

Idris also confirmed ongoing security collaboration between Nigeria and the United States, noting that American personnel are working closely with Nigerian intelligence agencies to enhance efforts at tracking criminal elements. He urged residents to remain calm, support security agencies, and refrain from spreading unverified information capable of escalating tensions.

Plateau State has long grappled with recurring violence, and the latest incident in Angwan Rukuba has once again drawn attention to the persistent security challenges in the region, prompting renewed federal intervention.
