Boom In Oslo! US Embassy Rocked By Explosion
According to Ireporter Online, an explosion struck the United States Embassy in Oslo early Sunday, causing limited damage but no injuries, authorities confirmed. The blast occurred around 1:00 a.m. local time, reportedly affecting the entrance to the embassy’s consular section.
Michael Dellemyr, the Oslo Police District incident commander, told public broadcaster NRK that officers received multiple reports of the explosion before confirming its occurrence. “At around 1:00 am, we received several reports of an explosion. We arrived shortly afterwards and confirmed that there had been an explosion that hit the US embassy,” he said. Dellemyr added that investigators are still working to determine the cause.
In a later interview with TV2 Norway, the commander suggested the explosion may have been deliberate, stating, “We have an idea of the cause. It appears to us that this is an act carried out by someone.” Authorities have begun interviewing witnesses, and a bomb disposal unit was deployed to the scene. Police also cordoned off a large area around the embassy while security operations continued in collaboration with US embassy officials.
Residents nearby reported hearing a loud blast. Sixteen-year-old Edvard told TV2 that he initially thought the noise came from his own home. “My mother and I first thought it came from our house, so we looked around a little, but then we saw the flashing lights outside the window and a ton of police. There were police dogs and drones and police with automatic weapons and helicopters in the air,” he said.
The incident occurs amid heightened alerts for US diplomatic missions in response to tensions over American military operations in Iran. However, police emphasized that there is currently no evidence linking the Oslo explosion to the conflict. “We’re not connecting it to the conflict. It’s far too early for that,” Dellemyr said.
