Bovi Slams Super Eagles: “Social Media Praise Got Into Your Head” After Morocco Loss

Ace Nigerian comedian Bovi Ugboma has criticized the Super Eagles for their recent defeat to Morocco in the African Cup of Nations semifinal. The team lost 4-2 on penalties in Rabat, ending hopes of securing a fourth continental title.

In an Instagram video shared on Thursday, Bovi attributed the loss to distractions from social media, as well as the impact of fans’ praise and unpaid match bonuses, which he said diminished the players’ drive and focus.

Bovi urged players to fully commit when representing Nigeria, emphasizing the unifying power of football in the country. He specifically addressed Samuel Chukwueze, stating that while mistakes are forgivable, players must recognize the responsibility they carry.

“Football is the only thing that unites Nigeria,” Bovi said. “So, dear Super Eagles and aspiring players, understand that representing the nation is more than personal glory. Social media distractions and fan praise should not compromise your dedication.”

He added that players should prioritize national pride over personal recognition, noting that the admiration of fans is directed toward their performance, not themselves.
