[BREAKING] 4.2km Runway: FG Announces N825.8bn Compensation For Abuja Indigenes (DETAILS)
To clear the way for the construction of the 4.2km second runway at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, the Federal Government has approved N825.819 billion naira in compensation for residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
Following a negotiation session with Festus Keyamo, the aviation minister, officials from both ministries, representatives from their agencies, stakeholders from Jiwa, the impacted community in Abuja, and others, the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, announced the news on Tuesday.
The N825.8 billion, according to the minister, is intended to encourage the community’s people to leave and to enlist their assistance in completing the 4.2 kilometre second Abuja runway project, which was originally given a 2022 completion date.
Additionally, Wike announced that the FCT will build a 5 km bridge in the town of Tunga Madaki and set up a cutting-edge medical centre that would serve as a temporary relocation site for the locals.
The FCT minister also instructed the contractors to restart their work while pledging to transfer the agreed funds starting tomorrow (Wednesday).
Jiwa Community had previously begun talks with the Federal Government and was seeking N2.5 million per hectare in compensation.
