Tinubu Built Highway Bridge Linking Calabar Municipality And Odukpani LGA In Cross River State? – Fact Emerge

A photo shared on Facebook in July 2023 purports to depict a bridge connecting Nigeria’s Calabar and Odukpani local government areas within Cross River state.

The accompanying post claims: “This is the famous Spaghetti Highway Bridge built by Jagaban linking Calabar Municipality and Odukpani LGA in Cross River State.”

Situated in the southern region of Nigeria, Cross River state is the location in question.

The construction of the Calabar-Odukpani road, colloquially referred to as the “spaghetti flyover,” was initiated by former Cross River governor Ben Ayade in 2019.

The primary purpose of this flyover was to alleviate traffic congestion in Calabar city, the state capital. Unfortunately, the project remained incomplete when Ayade concluded his term on 29 May 2023.

Comparable assertions have also surfaced on various Facebook posts.

However, upon scrutiny, this claim is debunked.

A Google reverse image search of the photograph indicates that it is, in fact, the Nansha Bridge situated in Guangzhou, within China’s Guangdong province.

This bridge, which accommodates eight lanes of traffic, was inaugurated in April 2019 and serves as a link between areas of the Pearl River Delta and specific regions in the western part of Guangdong Province.

Thus, the photograph circulating on Nigerian social media does not depict the Calabar-Odukpani flyover within Cross River state; rather, it displays the Nansha Bridge in China’s Guangdong Province.
