BREAKING: Amid Calls For Increase In Minimum Wage Over Subsidy Removal, Govt Increases Minimum Wage (DETAILS)
In order to mitigate the impact of the removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government, the Imo State Government has increased the minimum wage for workers in the state to N40,000.
Governor Hope Uzodimma made this announcement during a strategic stakeholders meeting in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, on Saturday.
The governor also revealed that his government would provide a soft loan of N5 billion for farmers to enhance their productivity.
Governor Uzodimma outlined additional measures aimed at alleviating the hardships faced by the people of Imo State across various sectors.
He expressed concern for the suffering of the low-income earners and emphasized his commitment to addressing their challenges.
As of May 29, 2023, President Bola Tinubu removed subsidy payments on petrol, leading to an increase in the pump price per litre of the commodity from N184 to over N500.
The removal of the subsidy has had significant implications for the financial well-being of the people, prompting the Imo State Government to implement measures to cushion the effects.
