BREAKING: Appeal Court Nullifies Senate Minority Leader Election (DETAILS)
The Appeal Court in Abuja has invalidated the election of Senate Minority Leader, Sen. Simon Mwadkon.
The court stated that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) did not properly nominate Sen. Simon Mwadkon.
The judge expressed the opinion that the PDP did not fully comply with court orders, as 12 Local Government Areas (LGAs) did not participate in the congress.
Furthermore, the court has mandated a fresh election for the Plateau North Senatorial seat. This verdict was delivered on Sunday, October 21, following a legal dispute between Gyang Yaya Zi and the Labour Party (LP) as the 1st and 2nd Appellants, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Simon Mwadkwon, and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd respondents for the Plateau State Northern Senatorial District.
In suit number CA/J/EP/PL/SEN/15/2023, the court declared the prior election of Sen. Simon Mwadkon null and void. In a significant ruling, the court annulled Sen. Mwadkon’s election and ordered a re-run within 90 days to determine the new representative for the Plateau North Senatorial District.
The Court’s decision was based on non-compliance with an existing court order. It emphasized that upholding due process requires a fresh election for the Plateau North Senatorial seat. Consequently, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) will not be participating in the rerun elections, as declared by the appeal court.
This ruling is likely to have far-reaching consequences in the political arena and raises questions about the validity of previous elections. Stay tuned for further updates on this pivotal matter, as the Plateau North Senatorial seat ruling becomes a subject of intense scrutiny and speculation, potentially affecting other pending cases in Plateau State.
