Umahi Slams Obi Over $50m Savings Amid Hunger Crisis

According to reports, Umahi made the remarks during a press briefing with members of the National Assembly committees, where he criticised efforts by supporters of Obi, popularly known as the Obidient Movement, to challenge the achievements of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The minister stated that he would not remain silent against what he described as attempts to discredit the work being carried out by the Tinubu-led government.

Umahi said there were organised efforts by some individuals to create narratives aimed at undermining the administration’s projects, adding that supporters of both sides would continue to defend their positions.

He said, “There is a committed effort by some people, building their own content creation to undermine the great work President Tinubu is doing, but we will not allow it.”

The minister also responded to claims that Obi left behind $50 million in Anambra State’s account, saying such savings could not be considered a major achievement if contractors and obligations were left unpaid.

Umahi argued that after outstanding debts were settled, the financial situation of the state was different from how it was being portrayed by some supporters of the former governor.

Using a biblical illustration, the minister compared governance to the story of a wealthy man who entrusted resources to his servants with the expectation that they would invest and generate more value.

He maintained that government funds should be used to stimulate development, create opportunities and improve citizens’ welfare rather than remain unused while people face economic challenges.
