Presidency Alleges PFIPC DG Forged Gbajabiamila’s Signature As Police Free Adeyemi’s Father
The Presidency has dismissed any association between the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, and the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), insisting that the appointment documents being circulated by the group are fraudulent.
According to reports, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, revealed that a police forensic examination had established that the signature attributed to Gbajabiamila on the disputed appointment letter was not genuine.
Onanuga, while speaking on the matter, said security authorities had already conducted investigations before filing the case at the Federal High Court, adding that the documents allegedly presented by the PFIPC Director-General, Adeniyi Adeyemi, were discovered to be fake.
He stated that the police investigation included a forensic review of the Chief of Staff’s signature, which reportedly confirmed that it was forged.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force has released Adeyemi’s father after detaining him for questioning over his son’s whereabouts.
A neighbour of the family disclosed that the elderly man was subjected to extensive questioning before being allowed to return home. The neighbour added that police officers also collected contacts from his phone during the interrogation.
The development followed a visit by security operatives to the family residence after they were unable to locate Adeyemi.
Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN, who represents Adeyemi, criticised the action, describing the arrest of relatives of suspects as unlawful and unacceptable.
Falana maintained that his client had not fled from justice, noting that Adeyemi had appeared in court on four previous occasions and would return for the next hearing scheduled for July 27.
The Senate, meanwhile, has stated that it cannot intervene in the PFIPC controversy because no formal petition has been submitted to the National Assembly and the matter is already before the court.
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Publicity, Yemi Adaramodu, acknowledged that an allocation linked to the council appeared in the 2026 Appropriation Act but insisted that the National Assembly was not responsible for verifying individuals appointed to head government agencies.
Adaramodu explained that any investigation by the Senate would require a formal petition, adding that the allegations surrounding the existence of the council and the identity of its alleged Director-General remain issues for the executive and the judiciary to resolve.
Adeyemi, who claims to be the Director-General of PFIPC, is currently facing an eight-count charge before the Federal High Court in Abuja involving allegations of conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.
The Federal Government has listed Gbajabiamila and 10 other individuals as prosecution witnesses in the case.
The controversy surrounding the council intensified following reports of a ₦1.3 billion allocation allegedly linked to PFIPC in the 2026 Appropriation Act, despite repeated claims by the Presidency that the agency does not exist.
