BREAKING: Buhari Signs N21.83trn 2023 Budget Into Law

President Muhammadu Buhari has signed the Appropriation Bill for 2023 into law, with a total aggregate expenditure of N21.83 trillion.

The budget is the eighth and final of his presidency’s annual proposals.

On Tuesday, he performed the ceremony in the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Buhari noted that the bill he signed has an aggregate expenditure of N21.83 trillion, an increase of N1.32 trillion over the initial executive proposal for a total expenditure of N20.51 trillion.

He signed it as passed by the National Assembly in order for it to be implemented as soon as possible, noting that he had directed the relevant agencies to work with the legislature to re-visit the changes made to the proposal by the lawmakers.

Due to the delay in passing the budget, the signing was moved to the first working day of the year, as opposed to the previous year, when Buhari signed the bill in December.

Last week, Senate President Ahmad Lawan explained that the delay in passing the appropriation was due to some anomalous figures presented by the executive to the legislature for consideration.
