McKenna, renowned for his coaching stint at Manchester United, where he served as assistant coach, rose to prominence in his managerial career by leading Ipswich Town to promotion back to the Premier League.

Chelsea’s interest in the 38-year-old tactician surged following Ipswich Town’s impressive performance in the Championship. However, a report from the BBC has revealed that The Blues have opted out of the deal.

In light of this decision, Chelsea has redirected their attention to other shortlisted coaches for the vacant position at the club. Among those under consideration are former Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi, Leicester’s Enzo Maresca, and Brentford’s Thomas Frank.

Meanwhile, Ipswich Town is striving to retain McKenna beyond the current season. His existing contract with the newly promoted club is set to expire on June 30, 2027. Efforts to extend his contract are underway, with the intention to potentially increase the compensation his suitors would have to pay for his services. Presently, any club seeking to acquire McKenna would need to pay a minimum of £4 million in compensation.

Reports suggest that both De Zerbi and Maresca are keen on the prospect of joining Chelsea, positioning them as frontrunners for the coaching position.
