Breaking News: President Bola Tinubu And Shettima To Pay Airport Tollgate Fees
President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima will now be required to pay tollgate fees when using airports in Nigeria, as approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
The decision to end the exemption of airport users from paying tollgate fees was reached during a FEC meeting. The Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, presented a memorandum arguing that the government was losing over 82% of potential revenue from the e-tags that provide access to the tollgates.
Speaking at the post-FEC media briefing, Keyamo revealed that initially, only the president and the vice president were exempted from paying tollgate fees. However, President Tinubu directed that both he and Vice President Shettima should be included among those required to pay.
Keyamo expressed regret that wealthy Very Important Persons (VIPs) who should be paying the tollgate fees have been exempted. He emphasized that only poor people have been charged for using the tollgates, a situation that must be rectified.
