BREAKING: NRC Confirms Passengers Injured In Abuja–Kaduna Train Accident

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed that a train accident occurred on Monday morning involving passengers on the Abuja–Kaduna rail service. According to Ireporter Online, the incident was confirmed by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the corporation, Kayode Opeifa, in an official statement released the same day.

Reports indicate that the passenger train travelling from Kaduna to Abuja was involved in an accident along the rail corridor after a collision incident during the journey. According to the NRC chief, the incident occurred close to Asham Train Station, leaving several passengers with injuries.

Providing further details, Opeifa explained that the accident happened at about 10:30 a.m. and involved a rear locomotive that came into contact with the passenger coach directly behind it due to a coupling fault. He added that emergency response measures were immediately activated following the development.

According to Ireporter Online, the injured passengers were quickly attended to by responders and subsequently transported to nearby medical facilities for proper treatment. Authorities confirmed that despite the injuries sustained by some passengers, no fatalities were recorded as a result of the incident.

The NRC boss also revealed that technical teams were swiftly deployed to the scene to address the situation while the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau commenced a detailed investigation in line with established railway safety procedures.

The statement further disclosed that after the affected locomotive and coach were detached from the train, the service eventually continued its journey and arrived at Idu Train Station at about 10:39 a.m., approximately 38 minutes behind its scheduled arrival time.

The Nigerian Railway Corporation reassured members of the public that passenger safety remains its highest priority, emphasizing that necessary steps are being taken to prevent a recurrence and to ensure the continued safe operation of train services across the network. The corporation also pledged to provide further updates as more details emerge from the ongoing investigation. 🚆
