BREAKING: Police Ban Tashe Performance In Kano Over Security Concerns

The statement, issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, explained that the decision followed consultations with the Kano State Government as part of efforts to safeguard lives and property throughout the holy month.

Authorities stated that the suspension was deemed necessary in the interest of public safety, noting that intelligence reports indicated that certain criminal elements were exploiting the gatherings associated with the cultural display to perpetrate unlawful activities. Tashe, widely known as a youth-driven cultural event marked by drumming, singing, and street processions during Ramadan evenings, has in recent years drawn complaints from residents over incidents of phone theft and rising youth restiveness in parts of the Kano metropolis.

Security officials warned that some individuals had used the celebrations as cover for acts including thuggery, handset snatching, and drug abuse. The Command assured residents that additional security measures have been deployed to curb such activities and guarantee a peaceful observance of Ramadan.

The Commissioner of Police called on parents, guardians, and community leaders to caution their children and wards against engaging in actions capable of disrupting public order, stressing that anyone found violating the law would face appropriate sanctions.

To strengthen public participation in crime prevention, emergency contact lines were made available for residents to report suspicious movements, while members of the public were encouraged to utilise the “NPF Rescue Me” mobile application for swift communication with security agencies.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and ensuring a hitch-free Ramadan across the state, urging continued vigilance and cooperation from all residents.
