Tragedy In Katsina: 4 Dead, 18 Injured While Scrambling For Ramadan Alms

According to Ireporter Online, the unfortunate development was disclosed by security analyst Zagazola Makama, who detailed how the situation escalated after a large crowd gathered to receive Ramadan alms. It was gathered that tensions rose when some individuals allegedly forced their way into the compound, triggering a chaotic surge as people struggled to gain entry.

The Divisional Police Officer of the Central Police Station in Katsina was said to have promptly mobilised officers to the scene, restoring order and coordinating emergency response efforts. Those who sustained varying degrees of injuries were immediately evacuated to the General Hospital Katsina for treatment.

Medical personnel later confirmed four fatalities. The deceased were identified as Bilkisu Mamman, 40, from Kerau Quarters; Ihsan Musbahu, 40, of Abattoir Quarters; Aisha Sani, 16, of Kofar Sauri Quarters; and Salamatu Kabir, 45, of Sabuwar Unguwa Quarters. Another victim, 15-year-old Hafsat Zubairu from Masanawa Quarters, was referred to the Federal Teaching Hospital Katsina for further medical attention. The identities of the victims indicate that women and a teenage girl were among those most affected by the tragedy.

Police authorities have since confirmed the incident and disclosed that the organisers of the Zakkat distribution have been invited for questioning. An investigation has been launched to determine the precise circumstances surrounding the stampede and to implement measures aimed at preventing a recurrence.

The incident has heightened concerns over crowd management and safety protocols during charity distributions, particularly during religious and festive periods when large gatherings are common. Residents have called for improved planning and enhanced security coordination to forestall similar occurrences in the future.
