Police Approves Tactical Command Base for Troubled Edo Community Amid Rising Kidnappings

In a bold move to address the alarming rise in kidnappings and violent crimes, the Edo State Police Command has approved the establishment of a Tactical Command Base in Iviukhua Community, Agenebode.

This development comes as a relief to residents who have long endured relentless attacks by suspected herdsmen, especially on farmlands, resulting in several abductions, injuries, and in rare instances, fatalities.

According to iReporter Online, the decision to situate the command base in Iviukhua follows intense lobbying by community leaders and stakeholders, who cited the deteriorating security landscape as a major hindrance to the area’s economic, agricultural, and tourism prospects.

In a letter of appreciation dated Saturday, July 19, 2025, the President General of the Iviukhua Community Associations, Most Senior High Chief Dr. Kennedy Izuagbe, expressed profound gratitude to the Edo State Commissioner of Police.

Backed by the Onogie of Iviukhua, High Chief Saliu Sule Izuagbe, and former Nigerian Ambassador to Brazil, Paraguay, and Bolivia, Amb. Adamu Azimeyeh Emozozo, who currently chairs the Iviukhua Security Council, the community praised the swift approval as historic.

“Your personal visit and confirmation of the Police Command’s approval have sparked wide jubilation across Iviukhua and its neighbouring communities,” the letter read. “This milestone will undoubtedly be remembered as a shining legacy in your career.”

The community also assured the police of full support and collaboration to ensure the immediate and effective establishment of the tactical base. According to iReporter Online, the building designated to house the new command is currently undergoing a series of upgrades to meet world-class operational standards.

Furthermore, Iviukhua leaders emphasized that the area’s culture of hospitality will extend to every police operative posted to the new formation. “As an exceptional host community, we guarantee that your men will enjoy our traditional warmth and cooperation,” they stated.

This development, according to iReporter Online, signals a renewed hope for lasting security and stability in the once-troubled Edo North enclave.
