STUDENT SCANDAL: Varsity Lady Stages Her Own Abduction, Sparks Outrage!
A 28-year-old female undergraduate has been apprehended for allegedly masterminding her own kidnapping in a desperate ploy to extort money from her family, which she planned to use to fund a business venture for her boyfriend.
The suspect, identified as Chinecherem Nwaokoye, a student of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), allegedly staged the false abduction at a lodge situated in the UNIZIK Temporary Site area of Awka, Anambra State.
According to iReporter Online, the suspect contacted her family claiming she was en route home from school, but subsequently vanished, leaving them distressed.
Throughout the day, her mobile phone remained switched off. By the following day, an unidentified male voice phoned the family, claiming responsibility for the supposed abduction and demanding a ransom of ₦10 million.
Following negotiations, the sum was reduced to ₦3 million, and a partial payment of ₦1 million was eventually transferred—shockingly, into the suspect’s own bank account.
According to iReporter Online, luck ran out on the pair after police operatives, acting on credible intelligence, stormed the lodge and discovered Chinecherem alive and in the company of her male accomplice. Both suspects were promptly arrested and taken into custody.
Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the development, stating that the suspects confessed during interrogation to orchestrating the entire incident.
Chinecherem reportedly admitted she was inspired by a movie and had intended to hand the money over to her boyfriend to help him establish a business.
Ikenga said: “Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), acting on intelligence-led investigations, uncovered the fake kidnapping plot and rescued the suspect from the location. The so-called abductor was her accomplice all along.”
Meanwhile, Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, condemned the scheme as a reflection of the worsening moral decay among some youths. He directed that the suspects be swiftly arraigned and warned that the Command would not tolerate criminal deception under any guise.
According to iReporter Online, the police chief also urged parents and guardians to maintain closer supervision over their children’s activities and social influences to prevent such acts of misguided desperation.
