BREAKING: What Appeal Court Just Did To Gombe Governor Inuwa’s Re-Election

Inuwa Yahaya

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has upheld the decision of the Gombe State Governorship Election Tribunal, dismissing the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenging the re-election of Governor Inuwa Yahaya of the All Progressives Congress.

The Court concurred with the Tribunal’s finding that the PDP’s case lacked merit. Governor Yahaya, of the APC, was declared the winner of the Governorship Election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on March 18, with 342,821 votes, while the PDP’s Muhammad Jibrin Barde scored 233,131.

Muhammad Jibrin Barde, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, had taken the matter to the Tribunal, contending that the governor’s election did not comply with the provisions of the Electoral Act.

Barde’s legal team argued that their candidate had secured the majority of the lawful votes cast, alleging multiple incidents of thumb printing and ballot box stuffing in nine local government areas in favor of Governor Inuwa Yahaya.

However, the tribunal, a three-member panel, dismissed the PDP’s application, deeming it lacking in merit.

The tribunal also removed the witnesses’ statements and exhibits of the PDP (INEC forms) for being baseless.
