Akpoti-Uduaghan, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), becomes the first female Senator from Kogi State.

Earlier in the week, the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, affirmed Akpoti-Uduaghan as the duly elected candidate in the Kogi Central Senatorial Election held in February. The court dismissed the appeal filed by Abubakar Ohere of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for lacking in merit.

In September, the Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal in Lokoja had nullified Ohere’s victory in the Kogi Central Senatorial Election and declared Akpoti-Uduaghan as the actual winner of the February senatorial poll.

Despite Ohere’s appeal to the appellate court for redress, the court upheld Akpoti-Uduaghan as the rightful winner of the poll.
