Bribery Drama: Peter Obi Challenges Kenneth Okonkwo, Demands Public Proof In Court
According to Ireporter Online, the Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has stated that he will proceed with a defamation lawsuit against Kenneth Okonkwo over allegations connected to alleged corruption during party primary elections.
Obi made this known on Tuesday during an interview on Nevon Media with Oseni Rufai, where he addressed the controversy surrounding the claims.
Okonkwo, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), had earlier alleged on national television that some House of Representatives aspirants were compelled to pay substantial sums to secure party tickets. He further claimed that Obi was centrally involved in the process and accused him of selecting candidates outside the primary election allegedly held in a hotel in Abuja.
Responding to the allegations, Obi insisted that the matter should be tested in court rather than being discussed in the media. He maintained that anyone with evidence of wrongdoing against him should present it before a court of law.
He added that the decision to initiate legal action became necessary after Okonkwo allegedly hinted that he still had further accusations to reveal in the future.
Obi stated that he is prepared to face the matter publicly in court, insisting that all claims should be substantiated before a judge rather than through public commentary.
He said: “The issue of taking Kenneth Okonkwo to court wouldn’t have arisen if he had stopped at those allegations. But he claimed he still has more he would expose about me in the future. So I am very happy to take him to court so that he can expose me publicly, alongside other Nigerians. If any of them has any criminal allegations against me, they should bring it to court.”
