He suggested that in the past, couples often opted for traditional fruit cakes at weddings, which were preserved for long periods and even consumed during milestone anniversaries. He implied that such longevity symbolised the endurance commonly associated with older marriages.

Contrasting this with present-day practices, Don Jazzy noted that modern wedding cakes are often made with butter and cream-based ingredients, which he described as less durable. He further humorously linked this change to the perceived shorter lifespan of some contemporary marriages.
