Peller Apologises Over Civil Servant Remark After Public Backlash
According to Ireporter Online, popular content creator Peller has issued a public apology following widespread backlash over his recent remarks concerning civil servants.
The controversy began after a viral video in which he stated that the Maldives was “not for civil servants,” adding that he reportedly spent ₦30 million on the trip. The comment triggered criticism across social media, with many Nigerians accusing him of being insensitive and misinformed.
In a follow-up response, Peller clarified that he did not fully understand the meaning of “civil servants” at the time he made the statement. He explained that he had picked up the phrase from someone else and used it without proper knowledge of its context.
“I didn’t know the meaning of civil servants. It’s now they told me about civil servants. Please, you guys should forgive me,” he said.
He further disclosed that he first heard the expression from a car dealer in Abuja who frequently used it, which influenced his own usage. Expressing concern over the backlash, Peller also said he hopes the controversy will not affect his plans to participate in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
“I learnt the word from one Alhaji who sells cars in Abuja. He’s always using that phrase, that’s why I said it too. I just realised civil servants are corpers, NYSC people, and I want to serve. Please, I’m sorry. It shouldn’t be that you people will reject me when I’m about to go for NYSC because of my comment. Abeg, make una forgive me,” he added.
The apology has since generated mixed reactions online, with users divided over his explanation and the initial remark.
Some social media users defended him, suggesting he may have spoken out of ignorance, while others criticised the comment as a reflection of misunderstanding about public service roles.
