CACOL Criticizes The Suppression And Unjust Suspension Of Senator Natasha

The Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership (CACOL) has expressed disappointment over the handling of the crisis in the Nigerian Senate, particularly regarding the dismissal of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s petition by the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions. CACOL condemned the committee’s decision, arguing that it undermines democratic accountability and silences a key advocate for justice. The anti-corruption group emphasized that the petition raised important issues related to transparency and governance that deserved thorough consideration. CACOL stated that the Senate President should have stepped aside to allow an independent investigation into the allegations made by Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan. It further called for the immediate reinstatement of the suspended senator and urged democratic institutions to support efforts to protect political freedoms.

Additionally, the Socialist Workers League (SWL) called for a proper investigation into the sexual harassment allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, noting the Senate’s failure to address the substance of the allegations. The SWL expressed concern over the Senate’s treatment of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan and its broader implications for women’s rights and democratic integrity in Nigeria.
