their daily operations.
The cause of the explosion remains unconfirmed, but residents suspect it may be linked to mishandling of explosive devices used by mining companies.
Community members reported widespread panic following the blast. According to Aminu, a local resident, “The explosion was so loud that many thought it originated from the nearby hydroelectric dam. People fled into the bush for safety.”
Another resident attributed the incident to mining operations, ruling out terrorist activity. “Mining has been going on here for years, and this seems to be an operational mishap,” the resident noted.
Local sources confirmed the recovery of four bodies, though authorities believe the casualty figure may rise as investigations continue.
As of now, there has been no official statement from the Niger State government or security agencies. Updates are expected as more details about the explosion’s cause and its impact on the community emerge.
