Chaos in Kaduna: Protesters Call for Overthrow of Civilian Government
Protest in Kaduna State, Nigeria, which began as a peaceful demonstration, has devolved into chaos and violence, according to former Nigerian senator, author, playwright, and human rights activist Shehu Sani.
In a report shared on his official X page, Sani described the severe escalation of the protest. The unrest has led to widespread destruction, including looting of banks, smashing of vehicles, and vandalism of government offices.
The situation has become so dire that Russian flags have been raised among the protesters. Some individuals are now calling for the overthrow of the civilian government and a return to military rule. This alarming development underscores the depth of frustration and anger among the protesters.
Senator Shehu Sani’s exact words on his page were:
“Banks looted, Vehicles smashed, Government offices looted and vandalised, Russian flags raised with a laud call for the overthrow of the Civilian Government and return to Military rule; This is the situation of our Kaduna ‘peaceful’ protest.”
The escalation of violence in Kaduna highlights the growing tensions and discontent within the region. The calls for a return to military rule are particularly concerning, reflecting a serious challenge to the current civilian government.
Authorities are urged to address the underlying issues fueling this unrest and work towards restoring peace and order in Kaduna State. The international community will be watching closely as the situation develops.
