Chelsea Youth Star Jesse Derry Hospitalised After Head Injury Scare

According to Ireporter Online, Chelsea youngster Jesse Derry was taken to hospital for precautionary medical checks after suffering a head injury during Chelsea’s 3-1 Premier League defeat to Nottingham Forest on Monday night.

The 18-year-old forward, who was making his first top-flight start for the Blues, was involved in a heavy collision with Nottingham Forest defender Zach Abbott inside the penalty area shortly before half-time. The incident prompted immediate medical intervention, with Chelsea’s medical team rushing onto the pitch to administer oxygen before Derry was stretchered off following a lengthy stoppage.

Chelsea later confirmed that the teenager was “conscious, talking and undergoing precautionary checks” as a safety measure. Caretaker manager Callum McFarlane also provided reassurance after the match, stating that early indications were positive and expressing hope for a full recovery. He also praised Derry’s performance, noting that the youngster had posed a significant attacking threat before the unfortunate incident.

The match marked Derry’s first senior start for Chelsea after two substitute appearances earlier in the season in the FA Cup. The winger, who joined from Crystal Palace last summer, has been highly rated within the club’s academy setup, scoring 12 goals in 29 youth appearances. He also represents England at Under-19 level and is the son of former Premier League midfielder Shaun Derry.

Following the incident, a penalty was awarded to Chelsea, but Cole Palmer’s effort was saved by Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels. Derry was subsequently replaced by Liam Delap as a concussion substitute while further assessments continued.
