Countdown To Morocco: Ten Teams Seal AFCON 2025 Places As Qualifiers Near End
The reigning African champions, Ivory Coast and Equatorial Guinea, have officially secured their places in the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco. The Ivorian team confirmed their qualification after a series of outstanding performances, ensuring they remain among the top two in Group G. Sierra Leone’s 1-1 draw against Chad further confirmed Chad’s exit from the qualification race and secured the Ivorian position with nine points from four games. Zambia closely trails in second place with seven points, while Sierra Leone faces slim qualification hopes with five points and one match remaining.
In Group E, Liberia’s narrow 1-0 win over Togo eliminated both Liberia and Togo from contention but secured Equatorial Guinea’s progression to the finals. Equatorial Guinea’s seven points over four matches highlight their resilience, while Liberia and Togo remain far behind with four and two points, respectively. Even if Liberia matches Equatorial Guinea’s points, an unfavorable head-to-head record would still prevent their qualification.
Current Qualified Teams for AFCON 2025:
The list of teams already qualified for AFCON 2025 includes notable powerhouses such as Algeria, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, Angola, Burkina Faso, DR Congo, Egypt, Morocco, and Senegal.
Additional matches are scheduled for Thursday, with teams like Nigeria, Sudan, and Tunisia hoping to secure their tickets to the prestigious tournament in Morocco.
