Crisis In NNPP! Four Suspended Lawmakers Accused Of Anti-Party Acts

The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has announced the suspension of four National Assembly members over alleged anti-party activities.

“These legislators were elected under the NNPP platform but have since engaged in actions that contradict the party’s principles and values,” Dungurawa stated.

He alleged that despite receiving full party support during the elections, the lawmakers had begun working against NNPP interests after securing their positions.

One of the cited incidents involved Kawu Sumaila inaugurating projects at his university in Sumaila without inviting NNPP members, which the party viewed as a deliberate snub.

Dungurawa further revealed that a committee would be set up to investigate the matter and make recommendations. However, he emphasized that the door remained open for reconciliation if the suspended lawmakers realigned with party directives.

Sources within the NNPP indicate that tensions between the party leadership and some of these lawmakers had been brewing for months, with reports suggesting that some were already considering defection.

Among the key points of disagreement are:

• The state government’s policy on emirate dissolution and restructuring.
• Rejection of the Kwankwasiyya red cap culture.
• Alleged continued ties with their former party, the APC.

The recent wedding ceremony of Senator Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila’s child in Sumaila was said to have worsened the situation. High-profile APC figures, including Deputy Senate President Barau Jibril and APC National Chairman Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, were reportedly invited, while NNPP leaders, including Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, were allegedly excluded.

The situation has raised concerns about potential further cracks within the party, especially with the 2027 elections approaching.
