Dalung Claims Buhari Was A “Stranger” In His Own Government After Helping To Eliminate Jonathan

Former Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung, has claimed that ex-President Muhammadu Buhari was exploited by political elites to oust his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan. Dalung said, “Buhari was used and dumped. His charisma was needed at that time to remove Jonathan. But once in power, the political elites hijacked the government, and Buhari became a stranger in his own government. I can corroborate this.”

He also recalled a meeting with Buhari in 2020, expressing his disillusionment with the administration’s failure to address insecurity and live up to the promises made to the Nigerian people.

In another scathing critique, Dalung condemned the recent reshuffle in the government, particularly the dissolution of the Ministry of Sports Development. He argued that the decision to revert to the National Sports Commission (NSC) revealed a lack of understanding of the importance of the political and technical components necessary for sports development in Nigeria. Dalung emphasized that scrapping the Ministry of Sports will harm international diplomacy and hinder the growth of the sector.

He said, “Sports is not just about technical expertise; it also requires political leadership. The Ministry of Sports handles the political aspects, while the NSC focuses on technical matters. The decision to dismantle the Ministry of Sports is wrong and will negatively affect Nigeria’s sports development.”
