Speaking at the inauguration of a 100MVA power transformer at the 132/33 kV transmission substation in Isolo, Lagos, Adelabu described the vandalism as a “significant setback” to Nigeria’s power sector. He lamented that such acts undermine efforts to stabilize energy transmission, asking, “Why do we hate our country so much to engage in such destructive activities?”

He further pointed out the widespread impact of these actions, noting how a similar incident in Bayelsa state left residents in darkness for four months.

“It’s heartbreaking to see progress reversed by such acts. As we work tirelessly to stabilize energy transmission, others are working to frustrate these efforts, dragging the country backward,” the Minister said.

Call for National Cooperation

Adelabu urged government agencies, private stakeholders, and local communities to join forces in protecting the nation’s power infrastructure. He emphasized that such collaboration is essential to prevent future setbacks and ensure sustainable growth in the energy sector.

Despite the challenges, the Minister praised TCN’s diligence in completing the new transformer project in Lagos, stating it would boost electricity supply, support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and drive economic growth.
