Datti Speaks On LP Merging With PDP, Tells LP Supporters What To Do

The vice presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) Datti Baba-Ahmed has called for calm following Saturday’s elections, urging supporters to vote for the party in next week’s governorship and the house of assembly polls.

He made the remarks during a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, just hours after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of Saturday’s election.

While the party has rejected the polls and its supporters claim the process was tainted, the LP leader has stated that his principal will speak in due time.

But, while insisting that the election was not free and fair, he assured their supporters that they would seek legal redress.

Baba-Ahmed is urging the judiciary to be impartial when the case is heard in court, and he wonders how the results of the presidential and National Assembly elections were collated when they were not transmitted electronically.

No amount of pressure would persuade the Labour Party or its agents to preach against peace, he insisted, adding that despite the election results, Nigerians still have hope.

According to him, the LP will continue to hold President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration accountable for a free and credible election, and he is confident that the guber and house of assembly elections will be a success on March 11.

However, the LP’s vice presidential candidate dismissed talk of a merger with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He insisted that the party is fighting solely for its mandate.
