The advisory specifically highlighted the Nigeria Diaspora Forum (NDF), which recently claimed to have established an office in Abuja for the welfare of Nigerians abroad. NiDCOM expressed concern, noting that NDF, despite appointing Chike Amadichi as the country director, is not even registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission. Amadichi is the Chairman of the Diaspora Committee of the Labour Party.

In response to the purported activities of NDF, Joachin Okafor, the Board Chairman of NDF in the United States, mentioned the forum’s goal of enhancing the welfare of Nigerians residing outside Nigeria. NiDCOM, however, emphasized its sole mandate, as designated by an act of parliament over the past four years, to oversee the welfare of Nigerians in the diaspora.

NiDCOM urged all government agencies, both federal and state, and the diplomatic community to verify the status of diaspora groups through NiDCOM’s database, highlighting the availability of diaspora focal persons at the state level to address related issues. The commission pledged to fulfill its mandate, collaborating with authentic Nigerian diaspora groups, associations, and individuals while cautioning against fraudulent activities.
