The exchange rate of the United States dollar to the Nigerian naira at the parallel market, commonly referred to as the black market, has continued to attract attention among traders and currency users across the country. According to reports from Ireporter Online, data obtained from Bureau De Change (BDC) operators in Lagos indicated that on Thursday, April 30, 2026, the naira traded at ₦1,400 per dollar for selling, while the buying rate stood at ₦1,385. This reflects the prevailing rates at the Lagos parallel market, where informal currency transactions are widely conducted outside official channels.

Further checks reveal that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) maintains a different position on foreign exchange transactions, as it does not recognize the black market. The apex bank has consistently advised individuals and businesses seeking foreign exchange to utilize official banking institutions for their transactions.

At the official market, figures show that the dollar traded within a range, with the highest rate recorded at ₦1,386 and the lowest at ₦1,365. Market observers note that exchange rates in both official and parallel markets remain subject to fluctuations, depending on demand and supply dynamics, and may vary slightly from what is obtainable at the point of transaction.
