Drama In Kano: Rep Reveals Bombshell Details Of The Rift Between Gov Yusuf And Kwankwaso

According to Aliyu Sani Madakin-Gini, the Dala Federal Constituency representative in the House of Representatives, the rift stems from deep disagreements over a controversial state drug contract and a state-funded scholarship program.

Madakin-Gini, once a key ally of Kwankwaso, revealed that these disputes have triggered a major split within the NNPP in Kano, especially after he distanced himself from the Kwankwasiyya Movement. Although still a member of the NNPP, Madakin-Gini has joined a rival faction, leading to his suspension by party leaders.

In his address to supporters, Madakin-Gini shed light on Kwankwaso’s authoritarian leadership style, emphasizing the demand for unwavering loyalty across all 44 local government areas of the state. He also highlighted Kwankwaso’s dissatisfaction with Governor Yusuf’s handling of investigations into a controversial drug contract involving Kwankwaso’s nephew, which led to his arrest by the state’s anti-corruption body. The governor, however, claimed he was unaware of how the contract was awarded and ordered a probe into the alleged fraudulent activities.

Madakin-Gini also disclosed that Kwankwaso was unhappy with Governor Yusuf’s investigation into a scholarship program, revealing discrepancies where only 400 beneficiaries received sponsorship instead of the 1,001 originally approved. Furthermore, Kwankwaso reportedly fumed over Yusuf’s refusal to dismiss key officials like the Secretary to the State Government, Baffa Bichi, and Commissioner for Transport, Muhammad Diggol, who were suspected of supporting Yusuf’s independence from Kwankwaso’s influence.

As the political rift intensifies, Madakin-Gini accused Governor Yusuf of betraying Kwankwaso’s trust, calling him a “puppet.” He also warned that Yusuf’s future in the party was on the line if he failed to toe the line.

Kwankwaso has yet to respond to these explosive claims.
