DSS Reacts To Reports On Arrest Of CBN Deputy Governor Aisha Ahmad
The Department of State Services (DSS) has chosen not to comment on the reported apprehension of the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in charge of Financial System Stability, Aisha Ahmad.
There are allegations that the secret police detained Ahmad in connection with her purported involvement in the acquisition of shares in Polaris Bank, Titan Bank, and Union Bank.
It is understood that she is being interrogated regarding the raising of $300 million for the completion of the Union Bank acquisition by Titan Bank.
Both the secret police and the central bank have refrained from responding to these reports.
When approached for comment, DSS spokesman, Peter Afunanya, stated that he cannot confirm or deny whether Ahmad is in their custody or has been asked for questioning.
He emphasized that during any investigation, individuals may be requested for questioning, and these invitations are conducted in compliance with legal procedures.
This development comes approximately two months after the secret service apprehended Ahmad’s former superior at the CBN, Godwin Emefiele. He has been in DSS custody since that time.
Initially charged with possession of a firearm, Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, was subsequently accused of a ₦6.9 billion fraud.
