Edo Election: APC Threatens To Skip Peace Accord Signing Over Police Inaction In Edo

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State has threatened to withdraw from the peace accord signing ceremony scheduled for today. The party’s State Chairman, Jarrett Tenebe, announced this decision at a press conference on Thursday morning, citing dissatisfaction with the police’s handling of recent violence involving opposition members.

Tenebe criticized the police for their failure to arrest those responsible for the attack on APC members, which he claimed was orchestrated by members of the opposition party. He highlighted a previous statement by the former Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Funsho Adegboye, who had promised that the names of the attackers were known, yet no arrests had been made.

The APC’s stance comes amid growing tensions in the state. The party alleges that the police have been biased, favoring the opposition and failing to act against those behind the violence. This follows a similar stance by the PDP, with Governor Godwin Obaseki suggesting on Wednesday that his party might also reconsider signing the Peace Accord, accusing the police of partiality.

As the election approaches, both parties are expressing frustration with the current security arrangements and the perceived lack of impartiality from law enforcement.
