Talakawa’s Parliament condemns in the strongest term the illegal arrest and the continuous detention of the Human Rights Organization Secretary, Comrade Wilson Imasuen and others on the 17th day of November, 2022 when Developers of Okeoroma Community, Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area whose houses were maliciously and illegally demolished by Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki came out to protest peacefully for God to unhardened the heart of the Governor to compensate them because they have been ostracized and rendered homeless by the singular act of the Governor.

It must be noted that in the name of carrying out security operation in the community, Governor Godwin Obaseki demolished more than 500 houses even though there is a valid court order restraining the Governor and his agents of saboteur from invading the community pending the determination of the substantive case in court. The Governor blatantly violated a valid court order which the protesters saw as an open invitation to fascism, totalitarianism, despotism, and authoritarianism in Edo State that operates a democratic system of government.

Prior to the peaceful protest, a formal letter was transmitted to the Commissioner of Police for security coverage of the protest, which was received and acknowledged, the police were fully on ground to cover the protest.

It is sad to note that when they had rounded off the protest, they proceeded to King’s Square when the CSO to Governor Godwin Obaseki Supol Waba led heavily armed Soldiers and Men of the Edo State Security Network to King’s Square to arrest Comrade Wilson Imasuen , a Civil Right Activist and other peaceful protesters and accused them of performing ritual at the Secretariat Building, specifically, the Office of the Commissioner For Justice and Attorney General of Edo State. The peaceful protesters were brought to the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Dankwara, a former orderly to the Presidential Candidate of PDP who ordered that they should be paraded before newsmen when Section 36 (5) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended provides that ‘ a person who is arrested by the Police is presumed to be innocent until proven contrary by competent court ‘

The new Commissioner who ought to be professional has decided to dine and wine with the Oppressor, hence , the Talakawa’s Parliament demands the immediate transfer of CP Mohammed Dankwara who is in Edo State to serve pokithiefcians at the detriment of Edo people.

The Parliament calls on Governor Godwin Obaseki to release the Comrade Imasuen Wilson a.k.a Pa Celine Dion and other innocent protesters immediately and tell the good people of Edo State how he used the 13 percent derivation fund he collected on behalf of the oil producing communities in Edo State.

The Parliament also appeals to the judiciary , which is the last hope of the common man to rise to its constitutional responsibility by upholding the tenets of democracy and the Rule of Law.
