Edo Is Active : APC Remains Party To Beat As Ogbeide-Ihama, Shaibu Set To Battle Obaseki’s Anointed Candidate In Fight To Finish

Now, we must give Edo State credit for not only seeming to be taking over the entertainment industry with their slew of talents taking over the music, skit, and comedy industries like never before, but also for taking over politics, as Edo State is now the subject of discuss due to its upcoming 2024 elections.

Asue comes from Edo Central, which has a strong desire for equality and justice, whilst the legacy PDP is campaigning for Governor with Rt Hon Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama. Ihama is from Edo South, which has the highest voting population and influence in political parties.

Whoever secures the PDP ticket and goes up against the APC will be a difficult and time-consuming process for Obaseki and his party. The governor is battling his deputy, Philip Shaibu, who would be a spoiler if he could not pick the party’s ticket, and if ANY TICKET HAS TO BE CUT, it would be the links with Obaseki, giving the legacy PDP side an advantage.

Presently, the Wike factor emerges as a substantial challenge. If Wike remains an influential member of the PDP by February next year, there might be an opportunity for payback. This scenario suggests Wike could potentially disrupt Obaseki’s prospects by backing a candidate different from his preferred choice. This isn’t a scenario to overlook; it holds a significant implication.

Now is when the game becomes more interesting; grab your popcorn and imagine the cacophony of problems for the party, the bitterness that would result from the final list of who is the PDP’s candidate by the INEC; these three camps, Asue, Philip, and Ihama, would fight dirty, each claiming to represent the PDP.

Now, it’s clear where the dynamics are heading. The APC remains the dominant force to overcome. If it continues managing its internal affairs effectively, as it has been doing, the PDP, having exhausted its resources, will face off against a unified APC in the ultimate showdown.

Certainly, as the unfolding events progress, we will provide timely updates. However, envisioning this scenario, it’s evident that the upcoming battle will be reminiscent of a no-retreat, no-surrender stance—a fight to the finish.
