The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of students implicated in a bullying incident at Igbinedion Education Centre, following public outrage over a widely circulated video showing a student being physically assaulted by his peers. In the footage, the victim was seen being grabbed by his clothing and repeatedly stomped on while crying out in distress, sparking condemnation and swift action from school authorities, who subsequently expelled those involved.

According to Ireporter Online, the Police Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, disclosed in a statement on Saturday that a comprehensive investigation had been conducted, leading to the identification and apprehension of all individuals directly linked to the incident. She noted that the suspects would be charged before a family court in line with existing laws guiding juvenile justice and child protection.

The police spokesperson further revealed that the Commissioner of Police had directed the immediate reinforcement of the Operation Safe Schools initiative across secondary schools in the state. The move, she explained, is aimed at addressing lapses in supervision and implementing preventive measures to avert similar occurrences in the future.

In addition, the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices has been activated to engage students and school administrators through advocacy, sensitisation, and reorientation programmes designed to promote discipline and positive behaviour.

While urging the public to remain calm, the Command assured that decisive steps are being taken to ensure justice is served and to strengthen safeguards against a recurrence. The police also reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining law and order and protecting residents, particularly children.
