The EFCC had recently secured the final forfeiture of a massive property in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), a ruling delivered on Monday by Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie of the FCT High Court. The property, which spans over 150,500 square meters and includes a range of duplexes and apartments, is now considered the largest single asset ever recovered by the EFCC.

Despite the monumental nature of the seizure, the EFCC chose not to reveal the name of the individual who forfeited the property, referring to them only as a “former top brass of the government.” This decision has sparked controversy and criticism, particularly from Sowore.

In a Facebook post, Sowore accused the anti-graft agency of protecting high-profile thieves while targeting lower-level criminals. He pointed out that the EFCC is quick to parade suspects involved in internet fraud (“Yahoo boys”), but hesitant to disclose the identities of top government officials, even after seizing a staggering property like the 753 duplexes.

He wrote: “What is the name of the ‘former top brass’ with 753 duplexes seized by the EFCC in Abuja? The @officialEFCC is now doing PR for thieves. If it was Yahoo boys, they’d line up laptops and phones in front of them and broadcast their photos worldwide, even before trial. But now, the EFCC is AFRAID of BIG Thieves!”

Sowore’s outcry highlights ongoing concerns about the transparency and accountability of the EFCC, particularly in its handling of high-profile corruption cases involving influential figures.
