While the state government has yet to respond to this incident that has brought disrespect to the revered traditional establishment, there has been speculation that this occurrence might have political undertones.

This speculation has arisen due to the recent replacement of Emir Bayero’s portrait with that of his predecessor, Muhammadu Sanusi II.

In a recent press briefing held at the NUJ Secretariat in Kano, the Commissioner of Police, Mohammad Gumel, confirmed the incident and made a statement concerning the situation.

Gumel labeled the protesters as a group of ‘miscreants’ who were seemingly influenced by political motives aimed at creating unnecessary turmoil within the emirate.

He emphasized that any efforts to undermine the dignity of the Kano Emirate Council would be met with proportional action from the authorities. Gumel assured the public that security measures would be firm against those conspiring to disrupt the prevailing peace in Kano.

Additionally, the police commissioner has summoned six individuals who were identified in a video footage capturing the protest for interrogation.

He stressed that unless these individuals voluntarily present themselves to the police, they will be arrested along with their sponsors.
