Ene-Nwannaji Secures Enugu NDC Guber Ticket

Professor James Ene-Nwannaji has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Enugu State ahead of the 2027 general elections following the party’s primary election conducted across the state on Friday.

According to reports monitored by Ireporter Online, Ene-Nwannaji secured victory over other contenders in the race, including Chief Chinyeaka Ohaa and Senator Gilbert Nnaji, to clinch the party’s governorship ticket.

Announcing the outcome of the exercise, the Secretary of the NDC in Enugu State, Dr. Sebastine Okafor, stated that the primary election was held across the 17 local government areas in line with directives from the party’s national leadership. He added that officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) monitored the process.

Okafor also disclosed the results of the party’s senatorial primaries across the three senatorial districts in the state. He revealed that Dr. Chika Obetta emerged as the candidate for Enugu North Senatorial District, while Dr. Mrs. Celelia Ikechukwu secured the ticket for Enugu East. Barrister Mrs. Ugochi Ohajekwe was declared winner for Enugu West Senatorial District.

The party further announced some of its candidates for the House of Representatives seats. Dr. Stephen Ugwoke emerged as the candidate for Nsukka/Igboeze South Federal Constituency, while Barrister Chimezie Nwodo clinched the ticket for Nkanu East/West Federal Constituency.

Barrister Kene Nnadi was unveiled as the candidate for Enugu North/South Federal Constituency, Comrade Felix Ijegalu emerged for Udi/Ezeagu Federal Constituency, while Barrister Onyebuchi Nwabueze secured the ticket for Igboetiti/Uzo-Uwani Federal Constituency.

Okafor noted that the remaining list of candidates for the House of Representatives and House of Assembly elections would be released at a later date.

Reacting to the exercise, the Chairman of the NDC in Enugu State, Dr. Johnpaul Ani, described the primary election as peaceful, transparent and well coordinated. He maintained that the process complied with the party’s guidelines as well as the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026.

Ani further stated that the successful conduct of the primaries demonstrated the party’s preparedness for the 2027 general elections and urged aspirants who were unsuccessful to support the party’s candidates ahead of the governorship election scheduled for January 2027.
