UK’s Conservative Party.
During the 10th Annual Migration Dialogue in Abuja, Shettima condemned Badenoch for criticizing Nigeria and suggested that she might even consider dropping her “Kemi” name. The Vice President also reaffirmed Nigeria’s prominence as the “greatest black nation on earth” and emphasized the country’s growing global influence.
However, Shaibu swiftly responded on social media, humorously pointing out that having the name “Kemi” or Yoruba heritage doesn’t automatically make Badenoch Nigerian. Drawing a playful comparison, Shaibu stated that just because Brazilian footballer Gabriel Jesus shares a name with the Son of God, it doesn’t make him divine.
Shaibu urged Shettima to focus his attention on more constructive endeavors, rather than fueling the controversy surrounding Badenoch’s past criticisms of Nigeria.
This latest exchange continues to stoke debates on national pride, political dynamics, and the role of the diaspora in shaping global perceptions of Nigeria.
