The Federal Government has given a stern directive to the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) to eliminate unqualified educators from classrooms nationwide, in a bold move aimed at uplifting the standards and integrity of the teaching profession.

During the inauguration of the 5th Governing Council of TRCN in Abuja, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, ordered an immediate clampdown on substandard teaching practices and mandated the withdrawal of licenses from any educator found tarnishing the image of the profession.

He emphasized that the era of mediocrity in Nigeria’s education system is officially over.

“Today’s inauguration signals a renewed national drive toward professionalizing teaching and restoring the dignity of education under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR,” Alausa declared.

He also emphasized the strict enforcement of ethical codes and called for a reward system that honors excellence in teaching. Furthermore, he urged partnerships with state governments, UNESCO, and other stakeholders to elevate Nigeria’s standards to global benchmarks.

“In countries like Finland, teachers are respected like doctors. That’s the mindset we must adopt,” he said.
