rehabilitated refinery.

The WRPC, under the management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), resumed operations on December 30, 2024, following a visit by Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPCL, who announced the development.

Harry Okenini, Chairman of the Delta State chapter of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), stated that while the refinery is operational, it has not yet reached full capacity. Currently, only Automotive Gas Oil (diesel) and Dual Purpose Kerosene (DPK) are being produced and loaded.

Okenini expressed hope that petrol production would commence soon, with expectations for the refinery to begin producing cooking gas, petrol, and other products by February. He emphasized that the retail unit is currently limited to diesel and kerosene.

Israel Omokere, National Chairman of the Surface Tank and Kerosene Peddlers, also confirmed that the refinery is functioning, and similarly, Kingsley Erituoyo, Delta State Chairman of the same branch, celebrated the refinery’s revival after years of dormancy.

Despite the positive reports, a visit by Sunday ireporteronline. revealed minimal truck activity within the refinery premises, suggesting that operations are still limited. Sources within the refinery revealed that only one of the three processing units is currently operational, producing diesel, gas, and kerosene. The second unit, which is essential for petrol production, has yet to begin operations, with plans to activate it in the near future.

The Federal Government and NNPCL are expected to take further steps to ensure the full operation of the refinery, including the production of petrol.
