rustling, successfully recovering the stolen livestock.
The police’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, confirmed the incident in a statement issued late Saturday. According to the statement, on January 3rd, 2025, around 9:30 p.m., the Faskari Divisional Police Headquarters received intelligence that armed bandits, wielding AK-47 rifles and firing indiscriminately, had ambushed four vehicles along the Funtua to Gusau highway.
The vehicles involved included a maroon Toyota Avensis traveling from Batsari to Yankara village, a white DAF truck, a Pacars Canter truck, and a green DAF vehicle, all headed to Funtua from Gusau. The suspected kidnappers targeted the vehicles in an attempt to abduct the passengers onboard.
Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Faskari quickly mobilized officers to the scene, where a gunfight broke out. The police successfully repelled the bandits’ attack, rescuing all 18 passengers unharmed.
Later that same evening, around 11:00 p.m., suspected armed bandits attacked Gidan Gada village in Kafur Local Government Area, Katsina, rustling several cattle. Upon receiving the information, the DPOs of Kafur and Malumfashi Divisional Police Headquarters joined forces and tracked the bandits to Fanisau village, where they engaged the bandits in a gun battle and recovered all the rustled cattle.
However, the DPO of Kafur sustained a gunshot wound during the confrontation and was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment. He is currently recovering.
The statement further indicated that efforts are underway to apprehend the criminals responsible for these attacks. The Commissioner of Police for Katsina State, CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, commended the bravery of the officers involved and urged the public to continue providing timely information to assist security agencies in their operations.
