Govt Sets Monday For School Resumption, Calls For Parents’ Full Compliance

The announcement was contained in a statement released on April 22, 2026, by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and signed by the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Abayomi Arigbabu. The statement confirmed that the resumption date is in line with the approved academic calendar for the session.

The ministry directed that all schools across the state are expected to immediately commence academic activities upon resumption, urging strict adherence to the schedule. Parents and guardians were also called upon to ensure their children and wards return to school without delay, stressing the importance of punctual compliance.

The statement further noted that the third term represents the concluding phase of the academic session, during which schools are expected to complete syllabuses, conduct promotion examinations, and prepare candidates for external assessments.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, the management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, has explained its decision to decline approval for a venue requested for a lecture by former presidential candidate Peter Obi.

The institution, in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, said the request was turned down due to late submission of details by the organisers, which were only fully provided a day before the scheduled event.

OAU stated that the short notice made it difficult to make adequate security and logistical arrangements required for hosting high-profile individuals, adding that the decision was taken in the interest of safety and in line with established institutional protocols.

The university emphasized that the decision should not be interpreted as a slight against Peter Obi or his office, but rather a procedural necessity to ensure proper event management and campus security.
