Mates Entertainment (EME), shared how the ‘Ojuelegba’ hitmaker spent countless hours in various studios because he couldn’t afford studio time.

Describing Wizkid as a “studio rat,” Banky W recalled how the young artist would spend entire days in the studio, hoping for a chance to record when producers and engineers would feel sorry for him.

Banky W explained, “Wizkid, for a long time, couldn’t afford studio sessions. So, he became a studio rat, showing up at any studio that would let him hang out. He’d wait all day, hoping someone would offer him a 15 or 30-minute recording session. During this time, he was constantly working on hooks, melodies, and ideas, ready for the opportunity to jump on the mic.”

He added, “Wizkid didn’t have the luxury of time to think about lyrics, so his process became one of spontaneity. Today, he’s one of the quickest songwriters I’ve ever met—sitting, listening, and freestyling melodies that turn into songs the whole world sings. That’s where the ‘Wiz’ came from.”
