Hoodlums Attack Anambra Community, Shoot Chief Security Officer

There was pandemonium in the Obosi community in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State on Wednesday night when unidentified assailants attacked and shot the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the community, Sir Dan Igbokwubili.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but reports suggest that the assailants, believed to be assassins, ambushed Igbokwubili by the roadside and opened fire on his vehicle as soon as it came into view.

Igbokwubili, a former police officer, was appointed as the CSO of the community by the traditional ruler of the Obosi Kingdom, Igwe Chidubem Iweka (Eze Iweka III), along with his cabinet members.

Eyewitnesses reported that, although Igbokwubili survived the attack, the assailants set his vehicle ablaze after riddling it with bullets. The victim reportedly feigned death to escape further harm.

One source described the harrowing experience: “He was ambushed along the road by the assassins while driving home. As Igbokwubili was driving past, they opened fire on his vehicle, riddled it with bullets. He fell and pretended to be dead. Once he regained consciousness, he fled, but one of the assassins pursued him. As a trained police officer, he managed to fend off his attacker and escape to a nearby hospital for treatment.”

The attack has caused widespread panic in the community, with residents fleeing for safety as the sound of gunfire echoed through the area.

The traditional ruler, Igwe Chidubem Iweka, expressed regret over the attack, especially as it occurred during a time when the community was celebrating its liberation from the grip of cultists, assassins, and kidnappers. He vowed that the Obosi community would not tolerate such violence and promised that efforts would be intensified to track down the culprits.

State police spokesman Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the incident, stating that the police are actively pursuing leads to apprehend the criminals. “We are aware of the incident and have obtained a clue. The situation in the area is calm, and further developments will be communicated,” Ikenga said.
